The Minister for Overseas Development Aid and the Diaspora, Colm Brophy T.D., attending COP26 in Glasgow today announced a funding package of €3.5 million aimed at assisting least developed countries adapt to the effects and impacts of climate change.
Speaking from Glasgow, Minister Brophy said:
“When I talk to leaders of countries most vulnerable to climate change, they tell me that they need more support for their adaptation efforts. That is why adaptation is a key priority for Ireland, and in particular Irish Aid’s contribution to international climate action. I am delighted to announce this significant package of Irish Aid funding, which will assist the most vulnerable communities. I look forward to working closely with our partners who provide this vital support.”
Today’s funding package announced by Minister Brophy is made up of two elements:
- €1 million to the National Adaptation Plan Global Network to support national-level adaptation in developing countries; and,
- €2.5 million to the Least Developed Countries Fund (LDCF), to support adaptation activities in some of the world’s most climate vulnerable countries.
