Ireland\u2019s new Consul General in M\u00e1laga has now taken up duty, with the mission set to begin providing consular services in the coming months.<\/span><br id=\"m_4524172155489122996m_-4674941523406306704isPasted\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Consulate General in M\u00e1laga is Ireland\u2019s newest diplomatic mission being opened under the <strong>Global Ireland Strategy<\/strong>, which has established a total of <strong>27 new missions<\/strong> to date and has greatly enhanced Ireland\u2019s global diplomatic network.\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Government made the decision to open the Consulate General of Ireland in M\u00e1laga in response to the continued growth in the number of Irish visitors to Spain, a significant number of whom travel to the south and to the Canary Islands. In 2025, the number of visitors from Ireland to Spain surpassed three million, the most from any country in per capita terms, making Spain the most popular destination for Irish holidaymakers.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"gap\" style=\"line-height: 10px; height: 10px;\"><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #808080;\">Welcoming this development, <strong>Minister McEntee<\/strong> said: \u201cOur new mission in M\u00e1laga will be a significant addition to our diplomatic network in addressing the needs of our citizens, both visiting and resident in southern Spain.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #808080;\">\u201cThe opening of the Consulate General is also a strong signal of the importance Ireland attaches to our bilateral relationship with Spain and having a presence in M\u00e1laga will allow opportunities to deepen our political, economic and cultural relations in the region.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #808080;\">The Minister of State for European Affairs, <strong>Thomas Byrne TD<\/strong>, commented: \u201cM\u00e1laga and the region of Andaluc\u00eda are home to a large and valued Irish community. This new Consulate General in M\u00e1laga reflects the dynamic Irish presence in the south of Spain and Ireland\u2019s deepening relationship with Spain. The new Consulate General in M\u00e1laga will strengthen our support for Irish citizens, build political and business relationships, and expand public diplomacy efforts in the
