F\u00e1ilte Ireland has today launched a new, first of its kind industry wide Employer Excellence
\ninitiative that will provide tourism businesses with a competitive edge as they recruit and
\nretain staff in a highly competitive employment market. The initiative will help to drive
\nimprovements in employment practices across the industry and provide businesses with
\ntailored action plans and a trusted symbol that denotes a rewarding and appealing
\nworkplace. Welcoming the initiative, Minister for Tourism Catherine Martin has described
\nthe programme as \u201ca step change in acknowledging businesses who make tourism a
\nrewarding place to work and sets a new industry standard for the sector\u201d.
\nMinister Martin added:
\n\u201cMy department and F\u00e1ilte Ireland have been collaborating with industry and other
\ngovernment departments to ensure that there is a coordinated approach to addressing the
\nlabour and skills shortages. Employer Excellence has been devised by F\u00e1ilte Ireland to help
\ntourism businesses demonstrate their commitment to creating rewarding and appealing
\nworkplaces. This initiative is a central element of the National Tourism Development
\nAuthority\u2019s strategy to support the industry to rebuild the staff and skills lost during the
\npandemic.\u201d
\nAccording to F\u00e1ilte Ireland research, tourism businesses are making positive changes to their
\nwork practices. The latest research shows that over 70% of the businesses surveyed who are
\nrecruiting are offering increased pay while 69% are offering more stable work patterns.
\nF\u00e1ilte Ireland\u2019s Employer Excellence initiative will build on this positive momentum.
\nParticipating businesses will obtain the Employer Excellence mark on completion of the
\nprogramme. The mark will become a recognised trusted symbol for tourism businesses
\ndenoting a quality workplace for employees.\u00a0 Managers of participating businesses will have
\nthe opportunity to undertake a new Best in Class People Management Programme, which
\nhas been developed by F\u00e1ilte Ireland as part of this initiative. Areas covered include Best
\nPractice Recruitment and Induction, Probation and Performance Management and Building
\nHigh Performing Teams.
\nF\u00e1ilte Ireland CEO Paul Kelly said:
\n\u201cAll over the world, tourism is fundamentally a people business but nowhere more so than
\nin Ireland where our greatest asset as a nation is the C\u00e9ad M\u00edle F\u00e1ilte provided by tourism
\nstaff and businesses to our visitors. But to attract and retain the best people to work in<\/p>\n

tourism, we need to consistently ensure we provide quality workplaces. Our new Employer
\nExcellence initiative has been designed to do just that. Through the initiative businesses will
\ncontinuously improve their work practices to make tourism a great place to work for
\nemployees. The initiative is a key element of F\u00e1ilte Ireland\u2019s strategy to ensure businesses
\ncan retain and attract the staff it needs immediately while also building a future pipeline of
\nskilled employees.\u201d
\nJenny De Saulles, F\u00e1ilte Ireland\u2019s Director of Sector Development added:<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are excellent employers and great workplaces in our industry and our latest research
\nshows that businesses are implementing changes to improve their workplaces. The F\u00e1ilte
\nIreland\u2019s Employer Excellence initiative will put the views of the employee front and centre.
\nThese insights will help support businesses to retain staff, but more importantly employers
\ncan achieve improved employee engagement and satisfaction that will drive the long-term
\nrepositioning of the industry as an appealing place to work. The programme is open to all
\ntourism and hospitality businesses with more than 20 employees.\u201d
\nFrom today (12th September) tourism businesses can sign up to join the initiative here.
\nBusinesses with fewer than 20 employees, can take part in the Employer Excellence
