T\u00e1naiste, Minister for Foreign Affairs, and Minister for Defence Miche\u00e1l Martin, TD has launched Ireland\u2019s updated strategy \u201cGlobal Ireland: Delivering in the Asia Pacific Region to 2025\u201d.<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

In his keynote address at the Global Ireland Summit, the T\u00e1naiste said: \u201cThis region includes important global actors who are essential to addressing shared challenges including climate change, peace and security. It also drives two thirds of global economic growth\u201d.<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

Representing half of the world\u2019s population, Asia Pacific countries are at the forefront of innovation and design. The integrated, Team Ireland approach central to this Strategy has been an important driver in delivering and exceeding our target of \u20ac100 billion in two-way trade with the region, two years ahead of the planned date of 2025.<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

Reflecting progress made to date, as well as global challenges arising from the COVID-19 pandemic and conflict in Ukraine, the\u00a02020 Strategy has been updated to ensure that our commitment to delivering in the Asia Pacific region continues to be guided by our core principles, interests and values. The Strategy renews Ireland\u2019s ambition and commitment to deepening ties across this dynamic region. It sets out a refreshed, updated set of actions and objectives to be implemented across Government.<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

In a sign of its commitment to Asia Pacific partners, Ireland has strengthened its presence across the region with new Embassies opened in New Zealand and the Philippines, along with a new Consulate General in Mumbai, India. Next year will see the opening of an Embassy in Pakistan and the Tokyo Ireland House is scheduled to open in 2025. The presence of State Agencies including Enterprise Ireland, IDA and Bord Bia has been strengthened.<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

Ministerial travel will be stepped up in the coming period, to reflect Ireland\u2019s ambition to deepen political, economic and cultural links with the Asia Pacific.<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n
