Diplomat Ireland was established in 2009 by Michael Mulcahy and the late John X. Miller (1953 – 2023). At that time, Michael served as the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Poland and John served as the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Hungary. There was no dedicated media resource that focused on the diplomatic sector in Ireland and Michael and John felt the need to establish a resource that would support and promote the Embassies and Consulates that were accredited to, and had diplomatic relations with Ireland, as well as to support the Irish Government in its global diplomatic policy. The Island of Ireland consists of two distinct jurisdictions and Diplomat Ireland supports the Ireland and Northern Ireland jurisdictions independently, and collectively when necessary.

Michael Mulcahy serves as President of Diplomat Ireland and is now Honorary Consul Emeritus having retired from his role as the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Poland in Ireland.

Diplomat Ireland operates as a not for profit entity and a social enterprise. Its ethos is based on supporting and promoting the diplomatic and consular sector in every way it can and furthering the interests of the Island of Ireland globally. Diplomat is the longest established and leading diplomatic news site in Ireland and focused on Ireland and its Global Ireland mission. It supports and promotes the Embassies that are currently based in Dublin, London and elsewhere as part of the nations that enjoy diplomatic relations with Ireland.
