The Tánaiste attended a high-level event hosted by President Biden on Ukrainian recovery and reconstruction today in New York.
This event, which was also addressed by President Zelenskyy, announced a Joint Declaration of Support for Recovery and Reconstruction of Ukraine.
Speaking in New York, the Tánaiste said “Two and a half years on from Russia’s full-scale invasion, Ukraine continues to face immense challenges. Ireland and our EU partners are unwavering in our support for the Ukrainian people, and for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
The Joint Declaration adopted today demonstrates the international community’s continuing commitment to Ukraine. I was honoured to join the US, G7, European and other likeminded partners in supporting this text, which sends a clear signal to Russia that we will continue to support Ukraine for as long as it takes.
This is a message I reiterated in my meeting with the recently- appointed Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Anrdrii Sybiha, earlier this week.”
Ireland’s decision to sign up to the Joint Declaration is in keeping with the Government’s policy of support for Ukraine, including the recent bilateral agreement on Support and Cooperation between Ireland and Ukraine.
