Minister of State for International Development and Diaspora, Neale Richmond TD, today announced funding of €7.9 million to ten NGO partners to carry out development projects overseas.
The grants, provided under Irish Aid’s Civil Society Fund, will deliver a wide range of development and human rights-related projects worldwide, helping people to access education, healthcare, nutrition and a range of other vital areas.
The organisations approved for funding are: ECPAT International, Global Witness Trust, Fields of Life Northern Ireland, Irish Red Cross, Nurture Africa, Orbis Ireland, Tearfund Ireland, The Leprosy Mission Northern Ireland, SeeBeyondBorders Ireland, and Social Health and Education Project.
Announcing the funding, Minister Richmond said:
“We should all be proud of the work carried out by Irish NGOs. Every day, they are in communities all over the world delivering essential services and advocating for a better future for those left furthest behind.
“Last week I was in Sierra Leone and Liberia, where I saw first-hand the incredible impact of our NGO partners. The projects being supported today will help deliver tangible change to the lives of some of the most vulnerable, particularly women and girls and those with disabilities.
“At a time when many NGOs around the world are facing funding challenges, Ireland remains committed to working in partnership with civil society to improve the lives of those furthest behind.
“I am pleased to announce funding today for these ten organisations whose projects will help to educate young people, strengthen health systems and support those living with disabilities. Their projects will also help address climate change, build sustainable livelihoods and combat the sexual exploitation of children.”
